Bio
I'm in the first year of my PhD this year, looking at spatiality in video games. This will naturally involve a lot of playing video games.

My profile on Raptr does a much more comprehensive job of tracking my gaming.

I have very eclectic taste in music, as my Last.FM page shows. Here's my weekly Last.FM artist chart:

Last.FM is once again updating, satisfying my urge to have my every move tracked for posterity. So the weekly chart's a bit more likely to be accurate now. Here's my overall artist chart, to give you a broader view of my musical tastes:

I don't watch much TV. Australian TV is crap. I get most of what I like to watch via BitTorrent (using the Vuze client). This way I get lots of stuff I'd never get to see on TV here, and stuff that I'd otherwise not get to see for months or years until one of the networks here picked it up. I get my news from the occasional edition of SBS News or ABC News (the commercial networks suck), and occasionally via Newsmap, an alternative interface for Google News that shows headlines larger depending on how many sources are covering the story. The two Newsmaps I look at are my World and National ones. To be perfectly honest though, the vast majority of news I get comes from people posting on forums. It's like getting news from Digg or these other Web 2.0 sites, except this way I get more actual news, and less petty Internet echo chamber crap.

I have a large and growng collection of links over at del.icio.us. My Flickr page has a bunch of pictures, but has been much neglected thanks to uni work and not wanting to drag a camera around, then come home and sort through a bunch of photos.

I like books, but unfortunately I only have a small (but growing) library, due to a succession of moves. You can check out my library here.

I'm pretty into technology, as you can probably guess from the above. My main computer is a 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo MacBook that runs Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard ("OS X: because making Unix user-friendly was easier than fixing Windows") and very, very occasionally Windows XP in Parallels for the rare times I need Windows (because XP is less crap than Vista). Until recently I had an old 2.4Ghz Celeron desktop running Ubuntu Gutsy, acting as a file server and P2P client, but it died.

I listen to music on a 40GB 4th-gen iPod Photo. I used to use a soft-modded Xbox running Xbox Media Center to watch most of my video content, but since I've gotten a nice 42" 720p LCD TV, I need scaling and HD content, which the old Xbox couldn't do, so right now I play most things off the MacBook, usually hooked up using an HDMI -> DVI -> Mini-DVI connection, but sometimes using my Xbox 360, which doesn't play enough formats for my liking. This is all a stop-gap until I can get a proper, full-fledged media PC.

My phone is a Nokia N95, at least until I can get an iPhone. Wakoopa tracks my software usage, which is neat. When it comes to technology, my interests these days run to cheap and easy to use, generally in that order of priority (except for Apple products, whose ease of use tends to trump any cost issues). Stuff I use can therefore be considered endorsed on those grounds.

Most of my activity these days is on Twitter. I've been on and off Facebook, but currently I am on. My profile is here, but I don't look at Facebook stuff regularly. I do not have a MySpace, because MySpace is made of lame and emo.
